Building Strong, Supported Community

Our town is strongest when all of our residents are supported. Supporting our island schools, local business owners, and residents, including aging residents and those who struggle with home affordability, will always be a priority for me.

My plan to strengthen our island community includes:

Ensuring that Town staff treats residents with respect and courtesy because our government should always be accountable to Town residents. Our government should work for you!

Continuing to keep Town taxes low and providing tax credits to Town residents with Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) funds.

Exploring ways for local government to support those dealing with mental illness, addiction, homelessness, and food insecurity, and continuing Town support for James Island Outreach, our local food bank.

Allocating Town funds to study local ordinances governing Airbnb and short-term rentals and working with property owners and Charleston governments to devise regulations that best serve James Island and the Town.

Working with the City, County, developers, and builders to tackle the affordable housing crisis.

Continuing Town support for recreation programs for island youth, including assistance in funding James Island school extracurricular programs when possible.

Engaging small and local business owners on how the Town can better support them and help them succeed.

Supporting activities that bring our community together, including the Town Market and the James Island Arts and Cultural Center, through hospitality tax allocations.

Supporting island schools and nonprofits via the Town’s Community Grants program.

Improving engagement with the City’s Lowcountry Senior Center to ensure their services touch Town residents.
